The winter of 2011-2012 has been quite warm so far for much of the country, including the Augusta area.
Temperatures in both December and January averaged 3.5 degrees warmer than normal at Augusta-Bush Field, and despite Monday's cooler weather, temperatures have been way above average so far in February. Sunday's high reached 77 degrees, but was not warm enough to set a record. The normal high temperature for this time of year, based on the 30-year climate averages, is 60 degrees.
The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a good chance of above average temperatures for the month of February over the eastern two-thirds of the country, especially in the Mississippi River valley and much of the South.
A cooling trend is expected this weekend, as temperatures drop back to near, or maybe even slightly below average levels for this time of year.
